On TV screens and live-feeds, the political press pack is exhausted. Not Lewis Goodall. He\u2019s fresh-faced, talking fast, buzzing. \u201cIt\u2019s been a slog,\u201d he says, \u201cbut this is my Christmas. I hate this journalist tendency to moan about how tired we are. The pace of news is relentless, but only up to a point. It\u2019s not like working down a bloody mine or even being an actual politician.\u201d<\/p>\n We\u2019re meeting at a pub behind Oxford Circus. He\u2019s dressed down: tricolour cord shirt, stone-washed jeans and trainers. Goodall is 35. His wife, Tone Langengen, a net-zero specialist at Tony Blair\u2019s Institute for Global Change<\/a>, recently turned 30. \u201cWe were due to go on holiday to celebrate,\u201d Goodall says, \u201cbut then Rishi called the election and it was deferred.\u201d On the floor, a small suitcase is nestled next to him. \u201cWe managed to get to Margate for a night yesterday. But otherwise it\u2019s been nonstop.\u201d<\/p>\n
